This is a dated educational summary for ordinary adult civilian firearm ownership and carry, not an exhaustive legal code or personalized legal advice. It does not determine your eligibility or calculate permit reciprocity. Local, tribal, federal, age, residency, firearm-type, and court-order restrictions can change the result. Hunting, NFA items, ammunition, use of force, and every storage requirement are outside this summary.

Federally licensed dealers generally must conduct a background check, subject to statutory exceptions. Interstate transfers have separate federal rules. State permitless carry does not override federal school-zone or federal-facility restrictions. See ATF background-check guidance and 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44.
